The same problems, in new shoes.
The same challenges, in new settings.
The same frustrations that don't feel new at all.
Sometimes this is the hardest part of growing old: knowing you never outgrow your core issues, but rather will keep experiencing them newly incarnated.
I ran into this quote by Natalie Goldberg this weekend and felt a new sense of calm about the whole thing.
Over and over, we have to go back to the beginning. We should not be ashamed of this. It is good. It’s like drinking water; we don’t drink a glass once and never have to drink one again. We don’t finish one poem or novel and never have to write one again. Over and over, we begin. This is good. This is kindness. We don’t forget our roots. –Natalie Goldberg
